CritSupPort

Managing Critical Supply Chains under Limited Port Operations

Objectives

Seaports and inland ports are key nodes for supplying Germany with essential goods such as food and pharmaceuticals. Prolonged disruptions in port operations—caused by accidents, cyberattacks, extreme weather events or political crises—can significantly threaten supply security. CritSupPort addresses this challenge.

The project aims to develop cross‑sectoral risk and crisis management approaches for critical supply chains. Using selected supply chains from the food and health critical infrastructure sectors, and focusing on the ports of Hamburg and Duisburg, CritSupPort identifies critical bottlenecks, analyses systemic risks and investigates potential cascading effects.

Based on these insights, the project develops data‑driven decision‑making and prioritisation methods, organisational models and communication concepts to improve coordination between port authorities, logistics providers, industry, trade and public authorities in crisis situations. All solutions are developed jointly with practitioners and validated through accompanying real‑world tests.

The DLG is involved as an associated partner and member of the project advisory board, contributing expertise from the agri‑food sector. CritSupPort therefore makes an important contribution to strengthening the resilience of critical supply systems and safeguarding the reliable supply of essential goods during prolonged disruptions.
