Background
The decline in biodiversity and the negative impacts on natural resources argue for a transition to agricultural systems that consider the principles of agroecology. Digitization can be an important enabler to achieve sustainable agricultural and food systems in Europe.
D4AgEcol will show the potentials of digitalisation as enabler for agroecological farming systems in Europe based on available knowledge and actors' and stakeholders' co-innovation capacity. Partners from seven countries across a wide spectrum of pedoclimatic zones in Europe will assemble a holistic evaluation of digital tools and technologies. This will be based on indicators for agroecology, economic considerations and investigations about perceived benefits for user and stakeholder.
Objectives
The overall objective of D4AgEcol is to provide knowledge for this transition. Drivers, barriers and risks of digital technologies for a transformation towards agroecology will be identified. Appropriated digital tools and technologies will be identified and measures to adapt and exploit their potentials to the transition to sustainable food and agricultural systems will be suggested.
D4AgEcol will
- provide knowledge about existing innovative digital tools and technologies that specifically support the transition to agroecology,
- raise awareness about management options with digital tools and their impact on agroecology,
- contribute to an improved understanding of the barriers, drivers and risks,
- promote digital tools and technologies as enablers for agroecology.
