Background
TEAM#UP is an initiative that aims to promote a greener and climate-resilient economy through innovation, in line with the European Green Deal. The European Green Deal is committed to protecting and restoring nature to achieve the EU’s climate and biodiversity objectives for 2030 and 2050, as well as ensuring the resilience of food systems.
Ecological Restoration (ER) is a major tool that can reverse ecosystem degradation, create functioning green infrastructure, and support climate change mitigation and adaptation. ER has been increasingly considered in strategies and policies worldwide, such as the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030.
At the European level, the European Commission recently proposed a European Nature Restoration Law as part of the European Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. To translate future national plans on ER into local action, educational programs require further consideration of ER in curricula to have expertise in implementing ER across Europe.
TEAM#UP underpins with educational programs at EQF levels 4 and 5 the actual implementation of the European Nature Restoration Law, which is a major component of the European Green Deal as well as associated policies such as the European Climate Law equally benefiting from healthy ecosystems. Transfer of innovation to practitioners via vocational education and training (VET) includes digital tools (e.g., visualization of demonstration sites with augmented/virtual reality), standards, protocols, priority of actions, and restoration tech.
Objectives
Major goal of TEAM#UP is to transform and translate existing knowledge into materials and processes supporting capacity building at vocational schools in ecological restoration. Thus, TEAM#UP aims to increase awareness and buildt capacities of professionals trained at vocational schools, skilled to implement and manage climate and environmentally smart solutions.
Methods
Expected results
TEAM#UP aims to shape a generation of professionals within VET, skilled to implement climate and environmentally smart solutions. Overall, TEAM#UP will facilitate the transition to a greener and climate-resilient society.
